MARCH 12th 2007 - Pinnacle Announces 'Your Moment of Fame' Video Contest Winner

During late Decemeber/January I was chosen as one of the four judges for the Pinnacle 'Your Moment of Fame' Video. Read the following:

The European level winner is Tatiana Agapcheva from Russia , a fashion designer who enjoys shooting videos and editing just for the fun of it. Her winning video is a fun creation called Cos-sa-chok, featuring Tatiana ’s brother, Valentin, who instantly became a celebrity with his comic dance. After uploading the video in www.pinnacleshare.com, Tatiana attracted many of her family, friends and web visitors who provided the greatest number of public votes.

“When I presented my work, I only wanted to show it to many people. But there was a little hope. And when the winner was announced, I was absolutely surprised! I could not believe it until that moment, because it’s some kind of beautiful dream!” says Tatiana , remembering the exciting moment when she got the news of being the winner of the trip to Hollywood .

FEBRUARY 26th 2006 - THE PROVIDENCE TAPE EDIT AND BAD COMBINATION

James and Tina battle it out over the Tape.

I am hoping to finish the Providence Tape edit at the end of next week, then meet up with the sound designers(Ennis and Larry from www.mousestudios.co.uk) and the composer (Mick Buck) to discuss the final sound and music mix. It's been a long wait, but results have been very encouraging! I have also added a brief background to my Halloween Film, "Bad Combination" click here to view it.

FEBRUARY 23rd 2006 - JESSE COWELL IS BACK WITH HIS SUPER HERO - DRAWN BY PAIN!

Fellow filmmaker Jesse Cowell is back again, this time he has created his own super hero!! I have seen clips from the up and coming series and I must say it looks impressive! Well done Jesse! I will be tuning in for the first two installments next week!

About Drawn By Pain

Young Emily once watched the world through blinders so the only thing she saw was the page on which she drew.  Isolated, she tried to look away as her father gave her mother lessons in brutality from which she could only hide in her mind.   But that rage, that fear growing deep within her would surface and once unleashed – could never be re-contained.

The story of a little girl turned fierce woman with the power to manifest strong anime characters onto herself has finally been brought to the web, and beyond!  Fusing animation with live action, Emily Waters slices an animated sword through all that stands before her as she struggles to deal with her real life, inner (and outer) demons and the person she fears the most: herself!

“I figured why tell a pre-existing anti-hero story that’s been told through comics and books when I can just make my own.  Isn’t the very point of storytelling to try and be original?”  Tired of seeing the same unoriginal remakes, sequels and adaptations made by Hollywood, Writer/Director Jesse Cowell embraces the idea of people finding the new wave in entertainment themselves via the internet and choosing what they want to see

Currently, the level of content on the web is mostly relegated to funny web cam moments and police chases, but Cowell thinks it’s time for a change from someone outside the studio system.  “I feel like it’s filling a void,” says Cowell who has poured every resource he has–many credit cards–into making something, not typical of web quality, but a piece that reflects cinematic style, creativity and heart.  “For the most part, Hollywood only re purposes its content and puts snippets online for us to see what we have already seen everywhere else.  What I wanted to do was give my online friends (Cowell hates the word Fans) a chance to have content that was made just for them.”

A 12-part series shot on the streets of New York with a state of the art High Definition camera, and teamed up with cutting edge animator Erica Langworthy/left (and blossoming Actress Marissa Parness/bottom right ), Cowell has made a film of psychological intensity, action and storytelling in a way that lets the audience choose what pieces they want to see next.

With the first installment free and the subsequent episodes costing only $1.99 each, Cowell lets the user decide if the film is for them and asks them to stop at any time it isn’t.  “I felt ripped off for years and wanted to give people a way to say, ‘Hey this movie isn’t working for me.  I’m not going to buy the next installment.’  If I could have stopped paying for 90 percent of the movies I’ve seen in the last ten years in the theater, I’d be a rich man with a lot more time on my hands.”  Cowell believes that his “proof is in the pudding” attitude allows the audience to be the judge of what they like (before and during) and therefore what they support with their limited entertainment budgets.  “I’d rather have word of mouth get the film seen than have a marketing blitz convince everyone of what the new hot thing is.  It should be up to people, not a quote on a movie poster by some guy they’ve never met recommending it.”

The official release date has been set for episodes One and Two of the series Drawn By Pain.  If all goes according to plan (which it will!), the first two videos will be available to watch and download on February 28th at 9pm (US). Check http://www.drawnbypain.com

FEBRUARY 22nd 2006 - MORE FILMS AND PROVIDENCE TAPE

I am getting closer to finishing a full edit of "The Providence Tape". One thing I have realised is that the film will probably run for a staggering 25min plus. So "The Providence Tape" isn't a short or a feature. I am still in the process or trimming and changing areas of the film, should be finished very soon with a trailer, but overall I am very happy with the product. Here are the this month's favorites:

DECEMBER 21st 2006 - ROCKY BALBOA IS A HIT IN THE US!

For those of you who enjoyed the Rocky films and enjoyed the good feeling, when Rocky went the distance in beating Apollo Creed, Clubber Lang, Ivan Drago and Tommy Gun in a street brawl. Will be glad to know, the eye of the tiger is back again, this time he fights a new contender Mason 'The Line' Dixon. Rocky joins the champion of champions in a virtual computer fight. It turns out, that if Rocky was to fight the current world chamption, Mason 'The Line' Dixon. He would be victorious! Rocky's is a fighter by heart, when hearing the news, he wants to come out of retirement and fight again. Rocky ends up applying for a licence to fight again, the rest is history....

I have read areas of the early script and read many reviews on the film. It seems to have gone down well on it's release 20th December! Have a read of the reviews yourself. The whole rocky story is something I find extremely Inspiring and positive, so it's no surprise, that when I heard it was coming out, I was delighted. Infact, I got my Rocky Sound track out. While listening to it, I ran round the block, trying to reach the highest point. Here is the link to the main site. Rocky 6 has already been masked by some, as the best Rocky since the first installment. I'll let you be the judge of that!

Rocky Balboa release dates:

Rocky will find a Cinema near you as from the 19th January 2007 (if your from the UK). The US had a release on December 20th 2006. Check a Cinema near you! Here is some more details about the film.

DECEMBER 20th 2006 - Winding down for Christmas. Not!

As I am off from work until the beginning of January. I have been taking it easy the last few days. I spent Tuesday afternoon visiting. "The Seven Oak Theatre" where fellow actress, Miranda Magee was starring in a new adaptation of "The Christmas Carol". I also visited film makers Mike Bartlett and Kevin Gates for a Curry and general chit-chat about film making. I am now planning to complete my film "The Providence Tape" during the remainder of this holiday. Subash has also designed a new poster for the film, there are still some changes that need to be made to the final version, but you can view it above.

December 5th 2006 - The Interview as a Final Cut.

Save my Radio Please

Earlier in October, I was interviewed by Bonnie Davies, about Budget Film Maker and low film making. Here is my final interview for all to hear. Click here or right click and save target. Bonnie's is starting up a new website http://www.internetsavedtheradiostar.com/ and also runs a column on myspace http://www.myspace.com/internetsavedtheradiostar. Here is a little about her site

"Broadcasting from that place round the corner from that shop near the main street on your way to What-ch-you-ma-call-it, Internet Saved The Radio Star is the digital-love-child of a girl who can’t sing but loves to dance.

Don’t ask her what new wave is or the difference between house and breakbeat because she won’t know …pop culture references will not be noted… this presenter has a disgusting-abhorrent-quick-get-out-while-you-still-can lack of knowledge when it comes to most music genres and always forgets the names of..who-played-that-song-again?

No-one gave her a microphone…she bought it herself…

So as much as it’s entertainment for you it’s education-for-Bonnie as she hunts out bands, dj’s, film-makers, punters and anyone who has something to say… Subscribe now, you know you want to : )"

November 22nd 2006 - Zombie Diaries Review - Part 1

Kyle Sparks Playing Greg

Mike Bartlett came down today to show me his new film "The Zombie Diaries" which he co-directed with fellow filmmaker, Kevn Gates. My family and I finally had a chance to sit down very late and watch the film. This could have been quite unfortunate, as my mum tends to nod off if the film is even slightly boring. So when Mike put the film on, which consisted of a Pulp-Fuction style narrative jumping over three stories I was sure she would be well on her way to sleep. Surprisingly, however, she stayed up for the whole film, finding it very entertaining, and even ended up in a debate with me and my sister at the end over the storyline (The film provokes questions and really makes you think).

Without giving too much away, I will say the following:

The film easily beats The Blair Witch project. Take Pulp Fiction, Blair Witch Project and 28 Days Later and mix them together and you will be coming close to The Zombie Diaries. The film is shot stylistically in documentary style and elements could easily convince you what you are watching is real - this is due to Mike and Kev mixing 'real' footage with 'actors' so when the film begins you are never really sure what is real and what is not.

The film starts off like a rocket - it immediately engaged me and the running time felt like a measly hour when in-fact the movie is 82 minutes long. Zombie Diaries is very original and the acting has some very strong areas - particularly the character 'Goke' (Played by Russell Jones).

This movie did not in any way feel like a typical low-budget film. Some of the tricks like the degrading of the raw video and the special effects were very good. This is not like any other Zombie film where the zombies look tacky. The aesthetics used for the zombies seem very realistic. The sound design was minimal but very, very effective. Overall, I rate this very highly- a must watch for zombie horror fans.

Mike tells me the film now has the best sales agent for the genre and is due to be unveiled at a private screening to critics in London in February before being officially launched at Cannes 2007. The film has already drawn interest from some big names in horror, and as a result, Mike has managed to get some of these people to agree to be judges for the next Halloween Challenge in 2007 - more info soon. Also, there will be a full review appearing on this site in January. This will be the first and only official review on the Internet until May 2007, as the Sales Agent representing Kev and Mike has decided no screeners will be available to anyone until after the film has sold in key territories.

I wish Mike and Kev all the best. Nice work boys! a high 8/10 from me!
