BudgetFilmMaker.com: What are the titles of the films you have
directed?
Mike Bartlett: Origins,
Opportunity Knocks & The Big I Am.
BFM: What are your films about?
MB: Origins is a film
about identity. It uses the words of a college lecture laid over the
visuals of
a person dying. As their life flashes before their eyes, we hear what
makes an individual who
they are. Opportunity Knocks is a film about honour amongst thieves.
The Big I Am is a twist
film about a man in a cell being questioned about his movements from
the night before.
BFM: What category does your films fall under drama, comedy, etc.
MB: Origins -
Experimental, The Big I Am - Drama, Opportunity Knocks - Comedy
BFM: How much
did the films cost to made? Break this down in sections?
MB: Including the costs
of the equipment that I purchased, the film cost £720. The camera was
£500. The microphone was £100. I also bought a beech box to route the
sound from the
microphone to the camera. The lecture theatre in ORIGINS was £20 for
the time we rented
it. Everyone worked for free on the films, but the equipment has been
utilized many times
since then on other films.
BFM: How did you
fund the films?
MB: Through my personal
savings.
BFM: How did you plan
to make the film?
MB: I spent a long time
working on the scripts.
BFM: What equipment
did you use to make the film?
MB: I used a Canon MV30,
which is known as a Canon Optura Pi in America. I also used an
Azden SGM-2X Shot-Gun Microphone. I can't recall the model number of
the BeechTek
