Did the film reaches your personal expectations and Why? Yes - I felt that I had a good script, that I managed to serve faithfully as director whilst getting strong performances from the cast.

What improvements would you make if you had to make the same film again? I would have filmed on a cheaper format in a location rather than a set and been stronger in my objections about sound issues - the acoustics of the warehouse in which we built the set were lousy.

What advice would you give to any film makers? Get the script right, if it isn't then there's no point in proceeding. Most short films are judged first by their story and secondarily by the quality of the performances. Any other concern comes a distant third place and is only there to serve the first two anyway. Few people care on what format the film was shot. As long as the technology allows what needs to be seen to be visible, it's fit for purpose. And on a practical level make every effort to ensure that you record clean dialogue - you'll really regret it if you don't!

What do you feel makes a good film? As above - a good script. For a short film, this should contain one strong idea and absolutely no surplus material. Short films are not always the place to take on big issues, there's usually too much to say for the time slot. Looking at a small detail of a big issue can work however. The strength of the short film format is that is the perfect medium to discuss issues considered too trivia, small or slight for feature film treatment. Such stories are often closer to our experience of life than the grander tales told by features.

What type of media will you provide your film on? "Telling Mark" is available on Digibeta, DVD or as a digital file.

What Video Editing software did you use? Final Cut Pro
