Download Day 2 (WMV 14MB)

Director: Gareth Crook

Film name: Day2

Director's synopsis of film: Day 2 is an abstract look at the events of 24 hours, for a man trying to come to terms with his place in the world. Questions are asked but not answered, problems are posed but not solved. Filmed in an odd style that in some ways mimics the early works of Peter Greenaway, Day 2 also employs some more contemporary techniques. The split screen effects that run throughout, add to the unease of the events and allow the viewer to immerse themselves, in the life of our on screen friend, as he reaches the end of another day.

Did the film reaches your personal expectations and Why? I did, in that it was quite an ambitious project for me to take on by myself. It was an experiment with a visual idea as much as a concept for the narrative of the film, but my expectations were simply to produce a film that held up to these ideals and retain as much production value as possible. When the film was screened at Kinofilm in 2006, the was really just the icing on the cake.

What improvements would you make if you had to make the same film again?
I'd probably shoot certain bits on a tripod and probably hire a 2nd cameraman, that said I'm actually quite happy with these elements in the film. The main thing I'd change would be the voice over, both in it's quality of recording and the voice used.

What advice would you give to any film makers? Take your time when producing a film, it's often a mad rush to get it complete so you can show it around, but proper pre-planning before a shoot and trying different things in post can be what really brings an idea to life.

What do you feel makes a good film? Several things, but originality has to feature highly. I'm a sucker for good production values too, it often spoils it for me when I see a great idea poorly produced.

What Video Editing software did you use? Final Cut Pro and After Effects on the mac.
